Mrs. Mary Ann Pellum, 66, of Augusta Highway, Canadys, entered into her eternal rest Tuesday morning, October 23, 2012, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Saturday morning, October 27, 2012, from Victory Baptist Church, 161 Maple Ridge Road, Walterboro with The Reverend Jerome Hodge officiating. Interment will follow on the family plot in the Williams Cemetery in Williams.

A native and lifelong resident of Colleton County, she was born September 26, 1946, and was a daughter of the late John Cornelius Crosby Sr. and the late Sarah Neta Roberts Crosby. Mary devoted her life to her church and to the services of others; having not only been a child care giver which was her life’s vocation, but was also a constant provider of care to family and friends that needed her. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church where she was active in many aspects of her church’s work and always present whenever the doors of the church were open for worship. At her church, she was a member of the Choir and Women’s Group and also helped organize the church’s annual fall festival, Vacation Bible School and Christmas Programs every year. . Mary was a very talented seamstress, having in her earlier years worked for a manufacturing company and in recent years quilted blankets for the church’s projects and done alteration work for family and friends.

Surviving are: her only son, James Mark Pellum and his wife Shirley of Walterboro; two brothers, James “Doc” Crosby and Mendel J. Crosby both of Walterboro; and a sister, Patricia Ann Bennett of Walterboro. There are three grandchildren, Lisa Thompson and her husband Richard of Round O, Michele Pinnix and her husband Glen of Walterboro, and Reggie Smoak, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Round O; and eight great grandchildren who also survive. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sheryl Elise Pellum; five brothers, John Cornelius Crosby, Jr., Harry A. Crosby, Marion W. Crosby, Jimmy H. Crosby, and Reginald D. Crosby; and four sisters, Elise Crosby, Hattie Ruth Herndon, Shirley Lenora Crosby, and Wanda Mae Risher.

Flowers will be accepted, or for those who so desire, the family has suggested that memorial contributions may be directed in her memory to: Victory Baptist Church, 161 Maple Ridge Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
