Mrs. Mary Herndon Smith, 85, of Winchester Road, Walterboro, entered into rest Monday morning, July 15, 2013, after an extended battle with Alzheimer's.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock, Tuesday morning, July 30, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Grace Advent Christian Churchyard, 298 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
Mary was born on August 15, 1927 in Walterboro, South Carolina to the late Howard Herndon and Adell Craven Herndon. She was a member of Grace Advent Christian Church in Walterboro. Mary retired from First Federal of Pompano Beach, Florida where she worked for many years as a switchboard operator. She was a woman of faith, a wonderful, wife, mother, and grandmother. Mary was a member of the Eastern Star, Chapter 187 for over 50 years. She loved flowers and enjoyed gardening. For many years, she and her sister in law, Pat Smith, owned and operated their own florist. Her parents and her beloved husband of fifty nine years, William Edward Smith, Jr.,all preceded her in death.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her loving and devoted children and their spouses, Jack Edward Smith (Carla), Byron, Georgia; and Frieda Hiers (Harry), Walterboro, South Carolina; grandchildren, Scott Smith, Hendersonville, Tennessee; Stacy Phillips, Warner Robins; Donna Robertson, Walterboro, South Carolina; Lee Stringfield, Morristown, Tennessee; and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother Clare Herndon.
