Mrs. Mary Koger Crosby, of Walterboro, entered into rest Thursday morning, March 3, 2022, at her residence following a beautiful and blessed life of 102 years, in the presence of her adoring family and under the care of Amedisys Hospice. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. William Jennings Crosby, Sr.
Born November 13, 1919, in Walterboro, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Archibald Campbell Koger, Sr. and the late Dora Bishop Koger. Mary knew the value of hard work and worked a nearly lifelong career as a seamstress. She worked for countless years at Harry’s Men’s Shop and the Walterboro Belk’s, where she was an icon to the locals of her community. In retirement, she continued altering and fashioning dresses and outfits for weddings, professional, and everyday wear. Just prior to the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic, she made fifty dresses for a Hatti Mission. She was the oldest member of Bedon Baptist Church. She was talented at painting water colors and crafts. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. She truly lived a legacy of love, centering herself around her family and always realizing each day was a gift.
Surviving are: four children, Mary Jo O’Quinn (Leslie) of Walterboro, Jackie Scarborough of Walterboro, Bill Crosby (Raiford) of Walterboro, and Carolyn Byrd Nimberger (Eric) of Athens, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Phil O’Quinn (Carol), Phyllis O Mangum (Joey), David Scarborough (Cheryl), Michael Scarborough (Sarah), English Crosby (Becki), Bryan Crosby (Robin), Charlie Byrd (Amanda), Jenny Byrd, and Joey Byrd; thirty-seven great grandchildren; and fifteen great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Hugh Byrd, Sr. and Jim Scarborough; a granddaughter, Teresa Scarborough; and a brother, A. C. Koger, Jr.
The family is especially thankful to Amedisys Hospice and their team members, Heather, Andrea, Leslie, and Taylor as well as Mrs. Mary’s caregivers, Lurane and Bernice for the love, dedication, and care they provided to Mrs. Crosby.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Saturday morning, March 5, 2022, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Dr. Philip McNeal officiating. Interment will follow in Bedon Baptist Churchyard, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro.
