WALTERBORO " Mrs. Mary DeWitt Beach, 87, of 1747 Beach Road, Walterboro, entered into her state of eternal rest Friday afternoon, December 18, 2009, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro following an extended illness.



Funeral services will be conducted 3 oclock Sunday afternoon, December 20, 2009, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro with The Reverend Dr. Theron Smith, The Reverend Lee Cothran, Jr., and The Reverend David Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro.



Mrs. Beach was born January 29, 1922, in Ruffin, South Carolina and was a daughter of the late Chesley D. DeWitt and the late Florrie Zellars DeWitt. She was the retired owner and operator of the former Burger Land in Walterboro and along with her husband she operated a blue berry farm. She was a longtime member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Downtown Walterboro, and at her church that she loved and was faithful to for many years, she was a member of the Mole Glover Guild which was formerly known as the Lillie Glover Circle. She will be fondly remembered for her love and skill at crocheting and knitting.



Surviving are: her husband whom she married August 5, 1938, Mr. Gerald Lucas Beach, Sr.; a son, Gerald Lucas Beach, Jr. and his wife Pearl of Walterboro; a daughter, Jane Beach Crosby and her husband Jimmy of Walterboro; and a sister-in-law, Janet Jolly DeWitt. There are four grandchildren, Tammy Renee Beach Crosby, Gerald Lucas Beach, III, Stacey Trenton Crosby, and Shannon Craig Crosby; as well as seven great grandchildren that also survive. She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Lester, Fairy, Eugene, George, David, and two infant brothers; and a sister, Catherine.



Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has suggested that a memorial contribution be directed in her memory to: Bethel United Methodist Church, 355 Hampton Street, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
