Sniders

Mr. Marvin Ira Tripp, 86, entered into rest Tuesday evening, December 17, 2019, surrounded by his family at his residence in the Sniders community while under the care of Regency Hospice.

Born May 3, 1933 in Vanceboro, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Lee Drew Tripp and Tiny Lavenia Wiggins Tripp.  A true entrepreneur, Marvin was a keen businessman with a strong work ethic.  He was farmer and avid gardener.  He was a logger, having operated Tripp’s Enterprises which eventually transitioned to his sons.  He worked in small engines, having been a Snapper and Stihl dealer at  Snider’s Small Engines.  Along with his wife, they ventured into the restaurant business having opened the doors to “Liz’s Place”, an eatery that was immensely enjoyed by the locals of the community.    He was even a commercial shrimper, having Captained the “Mrs. Liz”, which still to this day bares the name of his beloved wife. Marvin was a man of many talents and great abilities.  He was a talented musician, sportsman, and pilot who had his own airstrip and airplane.  His last job, and his most important was that of being a devoted husband and father.

He was proud to be of the Apostolic faith of forty years and a licensed minister of the faith.  He answered a calling and was one of the founding members of House of Prayer in Sniders.

Surviving are: his wife, the light and love of his life for 67 years, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Garris Tripp; five children, Dorothy Tripp Gerard and her husband “Buddy” of Sniders, David Tripp and his wife Jill of Sniders, Danny Tripp and his wife Vickie of Sniders, Debra Tripp Bishop and her husband Jody of Saint Mary’s, Georgia, and Jacqueline Denise Tripp-Benton of Sniders; a sister, Joyce Brantley of Goldsboro, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Marian Smoak Tripp of Sniders; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Hoover, Shawn Gerard, Terry Tripp, Kerry Tripp, Lathon Tripp, Logan Tripp, Brandi Bishop, Bobbie Jo Bishop-Maynard, and Reginald Lee Benton; thirteen great grandchildren; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to: The House of Prayer, 11434 Lowcountry Highway, Ruffin, South Carolina 29475.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 o’clock, Friday afternoon, December 20, 2019 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  The Reverend Noah Tripp officiating.  A private family interment will follow in the Tripp Family Cemetery, Lowcountry Highway, Ruffin.
