Mrs. Martha Clayton, 68, of Bamberg, entered into rest Wednesday morning, July 9, 2025, at Pruitt Healthcare in Bamberg. She was the wife of the late James Lindsay Banfield.
Born September 19, 1956, in Bamberg County, she was a daughter of the late Gerald Clayton and Evelyn Joyner Clayton. She graduated from Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School and USC-Salkehatchie in Allendale. Martha was a talented country singer and songwriter and performed in Nashville for many years. She was also an author and had published several books.
Surviving are: her children, April Still and her husband Shawn of Ehrhardt and Michael Oglesby and his wife Samantha of Bamberg; stepdaughter, Michelle Robinson of Ohio; sister, Pansy Clayton of Ehrhardt; brothers, Ben Clayton of Walterboro and Jimmy Clayton and his wife Susan of Ehrhardt; 4 grandchildren, Michaelle Grubbs (Jarrett), John Campbell (Kentlee Kneece), Austin Oglesby, and Alex Oglesby; and a great grandson, Carter Grubbs.
A Memorial Service will be held 3 o’clock, Saturday afternoon, July 12, 2025, at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Ehrhardt. The family will receive friends following the service.
