Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Bessinger, 81, of Walterboro, died peacefully Monday evening, February 16, 2009, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.



A family gathering to celebrate her life and the loving memories she left behind will be held Saturday afternoon, February 21, 2009, at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Homes, Walterboro Chapel.



Mrs. Bessinger was born November 8, 1927, in Bamberg County and was a daughter of the late Rudolph Bessinger and the late Laura Benton Bessinger. She devoutly loved her family, and also shared a passion for fishing the local creeks of Colleton County, dancing, and scribing and reciting poetry. She stayed current with not only local but national events and in her earlier more healthy years was a great southern cook.



She gave birth to twins and is survived by one twin her daughter, Rita Bessinger Addison and her husband Jerome of Ladson; a grandson, Jacob David Addison of Ladson; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Thompson of Walterboro. There are two cousins, Henry and Cole Benton; as well as two nieces, JoAnn Long and June Barnhardt that also survive.
