Marlene Thomas Detrick

April 15, 1933 — July 23, 2015

Mrs. Marlene Thomas Detrick passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 23, 2015, at the home of her son, Richard Gomrick in Suwanee, Georgia.  The widow of Mr. Clair H. Detrick, she was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on April 15, 1933, to John and Pauline Thomas.  She was a resident of Varnville, South Carolina.  In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she helped her husband in his accounting business and was for many years, was an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church and was Vice President of Varnville Area Housing Corporation.  Her great pleasure was playing bridge and dining out with her Ladies Group.

Survivors include: one son, Richard Gomrick and his wife Tricia of Suwanee, Georgia; one daughter, Karen Berrier of Lexington; three grandchildren, Jack Berrier, David Gomrick, and Maggie Gomrick; and two great grandsons.  Also surviving are: step children: J. Paul Detrick of Hampton; Betty French of Varnville, Susanne Whiddon of Simpsonville; and Barbara Gray and her husband Ronnie of Brunson; ten step grandchildren; and twenty-five step great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, July 25, 2015 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.  A private burial will be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made to: All Saints Episcopal Church, 511 Jackson Avenue East, Hampton, South Carolina 29924.
