Mrs. Marjorie Hatfield Shook, of Overhill Drive in the Forest Hill Subdivision of Walterboro, entered into rest Saturday afternoon, September 28, 2013, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
A celebration of her life will be conducted 10 oclock Thursday morning, October 3, 2013, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, South Jefferies Boulevard, Walterboro.
A daughter of the late Charles Samuel Hatfield, Sr. and the late Minnie Green Hatfield, she was a native of Savannah, Georgia having made Walterboro her home for the past sixty-five years. She was a retired substitute teacher for the Colleton County Public School System. She was an active member of Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Walterboro. At her church, she was active in many aspects of the churchs work with various committees and circles and having served on the Altar Guild, she served in any place where her presence was needed. Marjorie was active in many civic areas of our community as well. She was well known and loved because of her work with the Girl Scouts of America, having served on the Board of Directors for the Lowcountry Girl Scouts and was the troop leader for group no. 287 from the entry in elementary school until their graduation from high school. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Colleton County Senior Citizens Association and the Board of Directors for the United Way in Walterboro.
Surviving are: her husband of sixty-seven years, Mr. Charles Davis Shook; three daughters, Karen Shook Fucito and her husband Walter of Lenoir, North Carolina, Cindy Shook Breslin and her husband George of Jacksonville, Florida, and Dee Shook Adams and her husband Thomas of Terre Haute, Indiana; a brother, Robert Hatfield of Wilkesboro, North Carolina and Eleanor Bell of Tampa, Florida. There are five grandchildren, Kasey Poteet, Randi Burns, Ricki Debs, Kyle Gahagan, and Shannon Gahagan; as well as four great grandchildren, Alex, Zoe, David, and Sol that also survive.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed in her memory to: Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, 106 May Street, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
