Marjorie Sanson Devinney

Biography

Mrs. Marjorie Sanson Devinney, 89, of Platinum Street, Walterboro, entered into rest Friday morning, February 28, 2014, at her residence while under the care of Amedisys Hospice. She was the wife of the late Mr. Harold Lynn Devinney, Sr.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, March 2, 2014, from North Walterboro Baptist Church, 2177 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, South Jefferies Boulevard, Walterboro.

Born April 8, 1924, a native of Oklahoma, she was a daughter of the late David Sanson and the late Bertha Sanson Reynolds as well as the late Commander Harry J. Reynolds who married her mother following the death of her father. She was a member of the North Walterboro Baptist Church where she was active in the senior adult Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Senior Friends H2U through the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro and also the Order of the Eastern Star. She will always be remembered for the love and dedication she devoted to her grandchildren and for the talent she possessed for craft work and quilting.

Surviving are: her children, Karen Cartee and her husband Reverend Frank of Warrenville, Cecilia Johnson and her husband Danny Ray, Sr. of Warrenville, George David Devinney and his wife Becky of Pittsboro, North Carolina, and Libby Thurston and her husband Kenny, Sr. of Walterboro as well as Linda Warren of Rock Hill, Harold Lynn Devinney, Jr. of Austin, Texas, and The Reverend Dr. Jerry Devinney of Rock Hill; a son-in-law, James Grady Cartee, Sr. of Anderson; and three sisters, Katherine Smith of Florida, Joan Wolfe of North Carolina, and Barbara Clark of Texas. There are twenty grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren that also survive. She was preceded in death by daughters, Sandra Vanarshdale and Kathryn Cartee.
