Marion Monroe Harris Remley, 88, of 1482 Bells Highway, Walterboro, died Tuesday night, November 4, 2008, at Colleton Manor in Walterboro.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 oclock Friday afternoon, November 7, 2008, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro with The Reverend Jim Williams and The Reverend Bud Summers officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery, 5277 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
Mrs. Remley was born June 18, 1920, in Lumber Bridge, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late Wilton Ewing and Lula Alice Monroe Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband Lonnie Theodore Remley who died in 1974, and two brothers Charles Wilton and George Ellis Harris. She worked for civil service for the United States Army, having mostly worked at Fort Bragg but also having worked in Anchorage, Alaska. Upon retirement, she was well known for taking care of many children in the Walterboro community having served in the nursery for seventeen years at Edgewood Baptist Church and Saint Judes Episcopal Church. She was a member of Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church and will be remembered for the many hours she spent working in her yard.
She is survived by her daughter Alice Remley McMillan and her husband Fred of Green Pond, son, Lonnie Theodore Remley, Jr. and his wife Collen of Walterboro, and daughter, Margaret Remley Mears and her husband Paul of Walterboro. Her grandchildren are Grace McMillan Streit, Patrick and Sarah McMillan, Ben Remley, Justin and Jessica Mears; great grandchildren, Julia and Jay Streit; and step-grandchildren, Patrick, Aiden, and Liam Lyons.
