Malvin Bishop

August 19, 1927 — January 13, 2015

Mr. Malvin Omega Bishop, Sr., 87, of Smoaks, returned home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Agape Senior of Conway. He was the widower of Jeanne Sanders Bishop.

Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock, Friday, January 16, 2015 at St. Johns Baptist Church, St. Johns Church Road, Ehrhardt. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 2 pm until the hour of service at the church.

Born August 19, 1927 in Ehrhardt, he was a son of the late Boyce W. Bishop, Sr. and Lougenia Shaw Bishop. He was a member of St. Johns Baptist Church in Ehrhardt. He was a graduate of The Citadel, Class of 1958. Mr. Bishop served his country faithfully as a Merchant Marine during World War II. He then joined the United States Army where he received a Bronze Star for his service in Korea. After serving in the Army, he joined the Coast Guard Reserves, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. He was a retired Sales Representative for CSX.

Mr. Bishop was an avid fisherman who loved boating and also enjoyed hunting and golfing. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, was a member of the Shriners, and was also a member of Toast Masters. Most of all he loved his family, always providing for them and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are: his sons, Malvin Omega Bishop, Jr. of Smoaks and Shawn Sanders Bishop and his wife Lisa of Conway; grandchildren, Gabriel Bishop, Connor Bishop and Alex Bishop; brother, LaVerne "Bunny" Bishop and his wife Sara of Bamberg; and sister, Delores Smith and her husband Bill of Barnwell. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ottaway Bishop, Charles Bishop, Thurston Bishop, Swain Bishop, Edison Bishop, and B.W. "Junior" Bishop.
