Mr. William Elbert McCranie, age 84, of Cottageville Highway, Walterboro, entered into rest Sunday, March 20, 2016.
A native of McCrae County, Georgia, he was a son of the late Tommy Lee McCranie and the late Lilly Mae Herring McCranie. “Mac”, as he was well known, was the owner and operator of the Walterboro Horse Auction on the Cottageville Highway in Walterboro. His life was his passion of horses. His knowledge and expertise was sought after by many. Mac’s quick wit, astute business knowledge made him the special person he was. In earlier years, he was well known in the drag racing world. He retired as a terminal manager before moving on into the Horse world as a highly respected breeder and owner. He was deeply loved by many and will be missed by all.
Surviving are: two sons, Gerald McCranie of Alabama and Darrell McCranie of Walterboro; two daughters, Judy McCranie of Bonneau and Debbie McCranie of Ashville; a brother, Hubert J. McCranie of Cottageville; and a sister Tommie M. Derry of Walterboro. There are nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
At the request of his children, Judy and Gerald McCranie, a Celebration of his life will be conducted at 6 o’clock Friday evening, April 1, 2016, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The family will receive friends following that service until 9 o’clock that evening.
