Lowanda Gloria Peeples

Mrs. Lowanda Gloria Peeples, 85, of Varnville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at HCA Colleton Hospital in Walterboro, South Carolina, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Elliott Oswald Peeples to whom she was married 40 years.

Born August 25, 1940, in Stilson, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Robert Lonnie “R.L.” Spires and Sarah Callahan Spires. Married December 23, 1956, she spent the first 15 years of her 40-year marriage relocating and setting up home in various states along the eastern United States from Rhode Island to Florida supporting her Navy career husband and raising her children. Eventually retiring in Hampton County, she continued life as a homemaker dedicating her time to family and friends. She was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church in Varnville. She will be missed by her loving pets, Midget and Babe.

Surviving are: Faye Peeples Shores and her husband Terry of Varnville, Lonnie O. Peeples and his wife Bonnie of Varnville, and Tony M. Peeples and his wife Deanna of New Mexico; sister, Rebecca Brunson and her husband John; 6 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kelly Inez Thames; and sisters, Elizabeth Spires and Dianne Spires Cook.

Graveside funeral services will be held 2 o'clock, Sunday afternoon, March 1, 2026, at Peeples Cemetery, Varnville.
