Mrs. Louvenia Rentz Craven, affectionately known to everyone as “Winnie”, age 90, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Sunday evening, April 26, 2026, at Pruitt Health in Walterboro.
Born December 12, 1935, in Walterboro, she was a daughter of the late Aaron Coleman “Moss” Rentz and Alma Louvenia Belger Rentz. She worked for many years at Smoaks Dress Plant. She enjoyed flower gardening and loved spending time with her family and friends. Most of all, Mrs. Winnie loved children, helping raise her grandchildren and taking care of many others. She was especially fond of the color red – expressed in her shoes, purses, gowns, nail polish, 2 red Volkswagen beetles, etc. – a true reflection of her bold personality. She had a wide circle of friends, was deeply loved by her neighbors and was a bright and spirited presence in the nursing home. She had a special way of making everyone feel as though she was truly glad to see them, leaving a warmth with all who visited or encountered her.
Surviving are: her son, James Howard “Jimmy” Carroll, Jr. (Mary) of Wilmington, North Carolina; daughter, Gayle Carroll Bishop of Walterboro; grandchildren, Lisa Osborne, Jamie Carroll, Gayle Revis, Stevie Carroll, Jessica Steele, Cindi Bishop, and Ryan Bishop; great grandchildren, Rees, Cade, Drew, Audrey, Dalen, Ellan, Ethan, Sadie, Gracie, Braydon, Blake, Tinley, and Cullen; and one great-great grandchild, Mabel; sister, Peggy Ferguson of California; and many very special nieces and nephews. Mrs. Winnie was preceded in death by her sons, Steve Herbert Carroll and Kenneth Aaron “Kenny” Carroll; infant daughter, Shirley Dianne Carroll; her son-in-law that she loved as her own, Danny L. Bishop; and her siblings, Ruth Risher, Ida Mae Sheppard, Lib Ferguson, Crystal Rentz, and Marion Rentz.
Funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock, Friday afternoon, May 1, 2026, at Grace Advent Christian Church, 396 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 2 o’clock until the hour of service in the church sanctuary.
