WALTERBORO Mrs. Loretta Rose Schmitt, 66, of 1384 Possum Corner Road, Walterboro, entered into her state of eternal rest Saturday afternoon, March 27, 2010, at her residence under the care of Odyssey Hospice following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Tuesday morning, March 30, 2010, from the graveside in Green Pond Baptist Church Cemetery, 12317 Green Pond Highway, Green Pond with The Reverend James W. Williams, Jr. officiating.
The family will receive friends following the committal ceremony in the fellowship hall of Green Pond Church.
Mrs. Schmitt was born May 6, 1943, in Dyesville, Ohio and was a daughter of the late Chester Price and the late Elsie Woodrum Price. She was a devoted housewife and was the purchasing agent for Cheehaw-Combee Plantation at Green Pond. She was an active member of Green Pond Baptist Church where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir for nearly thirty years and was a member and past secretary for the Womens Missionary Union of the church. Lorettas home was her joy in life and the work she accomplished there along with the love and support she gave to her family and friends was what made her special.
Surviving are: her husband, Mr. Lawrence Frederick Larry Schmitt; a son, Aaron Stansbury and his wife Cheryl of Summerville; two daughters, Reba Hanna and her husband Dale of Walterboro and Tammy Rourk and her husband Michael of Round O; and two sisters, Betty Throckmorton of Charleston and Laura Hutchison of North Charleston. There are six grandchildren and one great grandchild that also survives.
Flowers will be accepted, or for those who wish, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to two groups that were close to Lorettas heart: Colleton County Relay for Life, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406; or to, Green Pond Baptist Church, Post Office Box 265, Green Pond, South Carolina 29446.
