Mr. Edgar Lloyd Driggers, 89, of 2605 Elms Plantation Blvd. in North Charleston, passed away Friday morning, February 6, 2009, at his residence following an extended illness.



Funeral services will be conducted 4 oclock Sunday afternoon, February 8, 2009, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment with Military Honors provided by the United States Army will follow in Bedon Baptist Church Cemetery, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro.



Mr. Driggers was born September 30, 1919, in Colleton County and was a son of the late Edgar Eugene Driggers and the late Ruby Hill Driggers of Round O, South Carolina. He was a graduate of Walterboro High School, was formerly a member of Midland Park Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board , and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church of North Charleston. He was a veteran of World War II. He entered the service at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina on March 9, 1942 and served through September 5, 1945. He served with the 3rd Army under the command of the late George Patton and fought courageously through the North African Campaign and the European Theater. During this time he was awarded seven bronze service stars from North Africa, Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe, Northern France, and campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge, was also awarded the good conduct medal and World War II Victory Medal. After his return from the war he went to work with Westvaco Paper Mill and retired after thirty-seven years of service.



Surviving are: his wife of sixty-one years, Mrs. Juanita Cook Driggers; a son, Edgar Lloyd Driggers, Jr. and his wife Frankie of Summerville; three daughters, Mary Ann Morelli and her husband Joseph of Greenville, Nora Elizabeth Teodoro and her husband Randy of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, and Deborah Jean Lemmon and her husband Bill of Winnsboro, South Carolina; and two brothers, Mendell Driggers and Alton Driggers both of Round O, South Carolina. There are eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild that also survives.
