Lizzie Mae Smith

Walterboro, South Carolina

Mrs. Lizzie Mae Grimes Smith, 83, of Walterboro, entered into rest Wednesday morning, April 29, 2020, at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.  She was the wife of the late Mr. Harry R. Smith, Sr.

Born February 18, 1936, in Wayne County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Johnnie and Katie Rooks Grimes.  She was a devoted member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Walterboro where for many years, she taught Sunday School and worked closely with the Vacation Bible School.     She enjoyed camping and being in her yards tending to her flower beds.   She will always be remembered as a loving and caring person who over the years played a vital role in the upbringing of all of her family members.

Surviving are:  a son, Harry R. Smith, Jr. and his wife Jean of Sandersville, Georgia; a daughter, Melissa Smith Warren and her husband Harold of Smoaks; seven grandchildren, Shawn Smith, Angie Smith, William Warren, Ryan Smith, Amanda Warren, Katie Warren, and Jamie Hunt; seven great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; as well as a close companion, Mr. Hoyt Morris.   She was preceded in death by two sons, Nickie Dwain Smith and Tony Darrell Smith; and a brother, Ervin Grimes.

In consideration of the extraordinary circumstances associated with the Coronavirus, the family will hold a private graveside funeral service for Mrs. Smith at the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Walterboro.
