Lillian Varnadoe

Mrs. Lillian Smoak Varnadoe, 98, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Monday, October 14, 2013 at Uni-Health Post Acute Care in Walterboro.

Funeral services will be held 11 am, Thursday, October 17, 2013 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel. Interment will be held at 1 pm, at Carolina Memorial Park, Rivers Avenue, North Charleston.

Mrs. Varnadoe was born September 5, 1915 in Colleton County and was a daughter of the late Ben Steedly and Lois DeWitt Steedly Smoak Crosby. She was first married to the late Ray Smoak and secondly to the late Francis Varnadoe. She was member of Peniel Baptist Church.

Surviving are: her children, Gene Smoak and his wife Susan of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Helen Roberts of Walterboro; grandchildren, David Smoak of Seneca, Rachel D. Adams and her husband Darryl of Pelham, NY, and Doug Pennell of Anaheim, CA; great grandchildren, Andrew Adams, Lela Rose Adams, Michael Pennell and Crystal Pennell; sister, Mattie Mae Craven of Ladson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Louise “Lucy” E. Erb; brothers, Carlisle Smoak and Lamar Smoak; and sisters, Helen Britt, Mabel Crosby, Adeline Benton and Catherine Smoak.

Mrs. Varnadoe is also survived by: her stepchildren, Franklin Varnadoe and his wife Catherine of Islandton and Shirley Dulaney and her husband Roy of Seveirville, TN; and numerous step grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and great great great grandchildren.
