Mrs. Dorith Elizabeth Thompson Bennett passed away peacefully Saturday, December 23, 2023 at the age of 97. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.
“Mama Dinkie”,as she was so affectionally called, was always there when her children needed her. She was known for being a wonderful cook and nobody left her home hungry. She was a faithful member of Little Swamp United Methodist Church and Little Swamp United Methodist Women. She attended faithfully as long as her health allowed. She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the Little Swamp Community in Smoaks, SC.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Edwin “Ted” Bennett , a granddaughter, Cara Thomas, son-in-law, Ted Nesbitt, her parents, Eugene and Florrie Thompson, sisters Floydell McAlhaney, Eloise Dukes, Mae Brickle and her brothers, Bill and Tommy Thompson.
She is survived by her loving children, Dianne Nesbitt of Smoaks, SC, Ron (Benna) Bennett of Greeneville TN, Harriett (Bob) Doub of Hampton, SC and Cheryl (Ricky) Crosby of Smoaks, SC. Her grandchildren who she dearly adored, Theodore ”Tinker” Nesbitt (Michelle), Christy (John) Cosh, Barbie (Steve) Robertson, Scott (Janine) Terry, Kim (Jerry) Graham, Tommy (Tammy) Crosby, Kelly (Mark) Ford, Tara (Len) Stokes, and Chad Bennett Crosby; and grandson-in-law, Travis Thomas. She has 19 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. Her sisters, Mary Stevens, Katherine (Tommy) Schnoff and one brother James (Lenore) Thompson, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o’clock Thursday morning, December 28, 2023, from Little Swamp United Methodist Church in Smoaks. Interment will follow in the churchyard. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons, Theodore “Tinker” Nesbitt, Scott Terry, Tommy Crosby, Chad Bennett Crosby, Charles Nesbitt, Josh Terry, Cooper Graham, and Dawson Stokes. Honorary pallbearers will be: Codey Robertson, Sean Cosh, Austin Crosby, Gabe Stokes, Kevin Thomas, and Josh Stokes.
