Lewis Kenneth Copeland

Mr. Lewis Kenneth Copeland, 86, of Ehrhardt, entered into eternal rest Sunday, September 18, 2011 in Amarillo, Texas.

Funeral services will be held 2 o'clock, Thursday, September 22, 2011 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Ehrhardt-Bamberg Chapel. Interment will follow in the Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Lewis was born on October 22, 1924 in Ehrhardt and was a son of the late Lewis Hammond Copeland and Mary Smith Copeland. He worked as a security officer at the Savannah River Plant for over 35 years. He loved to raise pigs and work on his farm, and also enjoyed playing baseball. He attended Clemson University for one year, but with the outbreak of World War II, was needed back home for oversight of the family farm and the German POW's working there. He was active as a member of the Masons and received a 60-year pin and award in 2010.

Surviving are: his son, Fred Hammond Copeland and his wife, Annette of Henry, Tennessee; two daughters, Mary Copeland Gray of Ehrhardt and Kathy Wheeler and her husband Scott of Amarillo, Texas; sister, Miriam Barrineau of Andrews; 7 grandchildren, Adam Chaimowitz, Eric Wheeler, Nikki Toulouse, Heather Wheeler, Katie Leach, Rebecca Wheeler and Sarah Wheeler; a great grandson, Kayden Wheeler; and 3 nephews, Tommy Copeland, Earl Barrineau, Jr. and Whitney Barrineau. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Castleberry Copeland on December 10, 2010; and a brother, T.W. Copeland.
