Mr. Lester Riddick Cook, Sr., 72, of Cummings, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 3 pm, Monday, October 12, 2009 at Deep Branch Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Cook was born May 7, 1937 in Cummings and was a son of the late Lee Van Cook and Sarah Reid Cook. He was an auctioneer and owned and operated Luray Grain Company. Mr. Cook served his country in the Army National Guard. He was a member of Deep Branch Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 40 years and chairman of the deacons for 27 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing his guitar; but most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are: his wife, Carolyn Smith Cook; children, Lester Riddick Cook, Jr. and his wife, Sherry Curry-Cook of Sumter, Phyllis Cook Briaud and her husband Pascal of Greenville and Jeffrey Michael Cook and his wife Leslie of Varnville; sister, Glory Thomas of Fairfax; grandchildren, Brandon Cook, Ashli Cook, Garrett Briaud, Jade Briaud, Michael Cook and Grayson Cook; step grandchildren, Travis Curry and Keeley Briaud; great grandchildren, Bayden Cook and Elina Cook; and step great grandchild, Hayley English.
