Mr. Lawrence Benjamin Bailey, 73, of Augusta Highway, Smoaks, entered into rest Friday morning, August 8, 2014, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon, August 10, 2014, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 2:30 that afternoon in the Harbiston Stateroom of the Mortuary.
Born January 3, 1941, a son of the late Lawrence Benjamin Bailey, Sr. and the late Doris Gatch Bailey, he was a native of Charleston, South Carolina, having been raised and spending the greatest part of his life in Colleton County. He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy, where he was stationed at Norfolk, Virginia with assignments in the Navy's air craft maintenance division. Lawrence retired as a maintenance technician from Showa Denko Carbon in Ridgeville. A family man, he will be fondly remembered for the love he possessed for his family, always centering his life around them. He loved gardening and farming as well as wood working. The family church is North Walterboro Baptist Church.
Surviving are: his loving wife of fifty-one years, Mrs. Susan Stocks Bailey; three daughters, Lauri Bailey Seigler and her husband Glen of Walterboro, Cathi Bailey Shuman and her husband Jeffrey of Walterboro, and Tara Bailey Cobble and her husband Dale of Nampa, Idaho; and five siblings, Lovey Thompson, Diane Dunigan, Karen Cooper, John Bailey, and Vicki Bailey. There are twelve grandchildren, Dexter Cobble and his wife Dana, Andrew Seigler, Ashlyn Garcia and her husband Adam, Jacob Seigler, Cody Cobble, Lance Shuman, Caleb Bonner, Taylor Shuman, Joshua Cobble, Hallie Cobble, Susanna Seigler, and Mathew Cobble that also survive. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Johnny, Mark, and Bill Bailey.
