Laverne Bishop

February 6, 1935 — January 29, 2015

Mr. LaVerne Delano Bishop, known to everyone as "Bunny", 79, of Bamberg, entered into eternal rest Thursday, January 29, 2015 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 3 pm, Sunday, February 1, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Bamberg. Interment will follow in South End Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 pm until the hour of service at the church. At other times, the family will receive friends at their home, 120 Azalea Avenue, Bamberg.

Born February 6, 1935 in Ehrhardt, he was a son of the late Boyce Washington Bishop, Sr. and Lougenia Shaw Bishop. He was a retired Lab Technician from Savannah River Site, where he worked for 40 years. He also served his country and retired from the South Carolina National Guard. Mr. Bishop was a member of First Baptist Church of Bamberg, where he was a church usher and the elevator operator.

Mr. Bishop was known as a jack of all trades who could fix anything and enjoyed "piddling" with everything. He enjoyed fishing and being on the coast, but most of all he loved his family and spending time with them.

Surviving are: his wife of 57 years, Sara Bald Bishop of Bamberg; children, Runelle Bishop Weeks and her husband Billy of Bamberg, William Conrad Bishop and his wife Donna of Cordova, and Sarah LaVerne Bishop DeRienzo and her husband Raymond of Bamberg; grandchildren, William G. "Gerran" Weeks, IV, Sarah Weeks Carter and her husband Steven, Riana Nicole Bishop, Caitlin Amelia Bishop, William Cody Bishop, Anna LaVerne DeRienzo, Reedy Louisa DeRienzo; great grandchildren, Lexie and William Weeks; and a sister, Delores Smith and her husband Bill of Barnwell. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ottaway Bishop, Charles Bishop, Thurston Bishop, Swain Bishop, Edison Bishop, B.W. "Junior" Bishop, and Malvin Bishop.

The family would like to thank the staff of Pruitt Hospice, Pruitt Health Care of Bamberg, Daybreak, Dr. Dwight and Dr. McAlhaney and staff and his special friend, Hattie Gordon for the loving care they have given Mr. Bishop during his illness.
