Mr. Larry J. Youmans, 61, of Cherokee Drive, Smoaks, entered into rest Sunday morning, August 10, 2014, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston following injuries sustained during an automobile accident in Colleton County.
Funeral services will be conducted 5 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, August 13, 2014, from the graveside in Tabernacle Cemetery, Lowcountry Highway, Smoaks.
The family will receive friends following the committal ceremony at the cemetery.
Born October 16, 1952, in Orangeburg, he was raised in Colleton County by his parents, the late Thomas Melvin "T.M." Youmans, Sr. and the late Odessa Hiers Youmans. Larry worked for South Carolina Electric and Gas where he retired as a fuel handler. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt, fish, and do what he done best - socialize. His grandchildren was his world and he will always be remembered for the love he possessed for his family always centering his life around them. He will also be remembered for the huge heart and giving spirt he possessed, having been a heavily involved volunteer with Camp Happy Days and Field of Dreams.
Surviving are: his loving wife of thirty-one years, Mrs. Phyllis Smith Youmans; four children, Hope Youmans Terrapin of Walterboro, Wade Bowen of Walterboro, Lindsay Youmans Langdale and her husband Jamie of Smoaks, and Larry J. Youmans and his wife Chelsea of Round O; a brother, Tommy Youmans of Glenco, Alabama; and three sisters, Jan Thomas of Yemassee, Dianne Litchfield of Walterboro, and Connie Droney of Round O. There are six grandchildren, Dillon Youmans, Sydney Rae Beach, Russell Bowen, Mason Dexter, Jaden Dexter, and Lyla Youmans; as well as two dear friends whom he loved as a brother, John Ginn and George Wright that also survive. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Trace Dexter; and a brother, Rusty Youmans.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the following: Camp Happy Days, 1622 Ashley Hall Road, Charleston, South Carolina 29407; or to, Field of Dreams, 1180 Springmaid Avenue, Fort Mill, South Carolina 29708.
