Dr. Lamar Edward Priester, Jr., Ph.D., 89, of Rum Gully, entered into eternal rest Wednesday evening, November 2, 2022 at his residence.
Born March 24, 1933 in Hilton Head, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Lamar Edward Priester, Sr. and Maude White Priester. He served his country in the Naval Reserves. Lamar was a graduate of College of Charleston and Clemson University. He was a retired Environmental Consultant having served as SC DHEC Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner, Secretary of Energy of South Carolina, and served on the Economic Development Commission of Hampton County. He also was a professor at Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina. He was a member of Varnville United Methodist Church. Lamar was an avid sportsman, fisherman and loved the outdoors. He was especially known for his green thumb and enjoyed working with his plants and making anything grow.
Surviving are: his wife of 62 years, Virginia Bunn Priester of Rum Gully; children, Lisa Priester Ball and her husband Mark of Rum Gully, and Lamar Edward Priester, III and his wife Anne of Eutawville; grandchildren, Hunter Lamar Priester and his wife Mary Ann; Ashley Priester Harter and her husband Collin, Dr. Morgan Elizabeth “Mo” Ball, and Virginia Caitlin Ball; great grandson, Elijah Lamar Priester; sister, Emily Carolyn Brower of Irmo; and a nephew, Charles Brower.

A memorial service will be held 1 o’clock, Saturday afternoon, November 5, 2022 at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Mark and Lisa Ball, 610 Walling Road, Islandton, South Carolina 29929.
