Kent Raymond Mixson

Kent Mixson, age 62, of Friendsville, Tennessee, formerly of Hampton County, South Carolina, won his battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Born June 14, 1964, in Varnville, he was a son of the late Eli Mixson and Margaret Mixson. Kent devoted more than two decades of his life to law enforcement before retiring as a Detective in 2012. Detective Mixson served the citizens of Hampton County with dedication through the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office, Hampton Police Department, and Estill Police Department. After retiring, Kent moved to Friendsville, Tennessee. He was a faithful member of Grassy Valley Baptist Church where he led the motorcycle ministry that included a food trailer ministry. Kent had a passion for serving God by serving others.

He is survived by his wife, Gale Mixson; sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Savannah Mixson, and Scott and Heaven Lacy; daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Dale Lawson; grandchildren, Hannah Mixson, Maverick Lawson, Harper Lawson, Louis Lacy, Nevaeh Hicks, James Mixson, Michael Troy, Alissa Kelly, and Isabella Troy; great-granddaughter, Amelia Troy; brothers, Doug (Ruthie) Mixson, Greg (Jessica) Mixson, and Harry Mixson; sisters, Janet (William) Mixon and Joan Rushing; brother-in-law, Walt Yeisley; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Yeisley; brother-in-law, Gene Rushing; and two sisters-in-law, Arlene B. Mixson and Patricia H. Mixson.

A memorial service will be held at 5 o'clock, Saturday evening, August 22, 2026, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 4 o'clock until the hour of service.
