Kenneth Kirkland

Biography

Reverend Kenneth R. Kirkland, 80, of Hendersonville, went home to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, on Sunday morning, August 28, 2011.

Mr. Kirkland was born November 2, 1930 in Jacksonville, FL and was the son of the late M. Fred and Marie Cook Kirkland. He was an active member of the Hendersonville Baptist Church, serving the Lord as a Deacon for more than 52 years. He was a licensed minister and served as Head Chaplin at the Colleton County Jail for over 30 years, where he was known as "Reb". He, along with other jail Chaplin's, formed a group known as the "Walking with Jesus" Group and served at the Heritage Heath Care Center. Mr. Kirkland served in the US Army as a P.F.C. during the Korean War. He was known and will always be remembered as "Pappa" to many children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Surviving are: his wife of over 46 years, May Jones Kirkland; son, A. "Chris" Ferrand of Aiken; a nephew, Dillan M. Jones of the Kirkland's home; grandchildren, Christopher and Ashley Ferrand; sister-in-law, Harriet Kirkland of Charleston; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service, as a tribute to his dedication to the Lord, will be held at 11 am, Sunday, September 4, 2011, during the Sunday morning worship service, at Hendersonville Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Mabry officiating. At his request and in order to help others, Mr. Kirkland's body was donated to MUSC for science research.
