Mrs. Katherine Ryan Crosby, 89, of Walterboro, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, entered into rest Saturday afternoon, August 15, 2026, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. She was the loving wife of the late George Russell Crosby.
Born August 29, 1936, in Colleton County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Thoams Ryan and the late Estelle Kinard Ryan. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and the enduring values of hard work and dedication. Having worked as a seamstress at Smoaks Manufacturing, she also spent many years working in private homes as a housekeeper. She centered her life around those she loved, and her love left a lasting impression on the many people whose lives she touched. She attended the Smoaks Church of God of Prophecy. She enjoyed gardening and deer hunting; and was an excellent cook who was legendary for her baked goods.
Surviving are: a daughter, Theresa Crosby of Walterboro; a daughter-in-law, Russell Anne Potts of Walterboro; a brother, Jake Ryan of Hampton; and two sisters, Nancy Alexander of Pickins and Judy Conley of Hershey, Pennsylvania. There are four grandchildren, Robin Powell (Mark), Jennifer Berry (Reese), Katie Bunton (Tanner), and Julie Craven; seven great grandchildren, Taylor Berry, Kaitlynn Craven, MacKenzie Craven, Asheland Craven, Luke Bunton, Blake Bunton, and Mason Berry; and two great grandchildren, Amelia and Jameson Berry. She was preceded in death by a son, Ted Crosby; a daughter, Marilyn Turner; one whom she loved as a son, David Ryan; five brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, August 20, 2026, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Wayne Varnadoe officiating. Interment will follow in Welch Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 536 Welch Creek Road, Walterboro.
