Mr. James Willie Carter, Jr., known by all as “J.W.”, age 72, of Cottageville, entered into rest Thursday morning, October 16, 2025, at the Lowcountry Community Hospice House in Summerville.
Born April 25, 1953, in Andrews, South Carolina, he was a son of the late James Carter, Sr. and the late Rose Howard Sanchez. He served faithfully in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and was a member of the Pistol Team. He was the founding owner of the iconic J.W.’s Tire Station in the heart of Cottageville, which he operated until 2013. He attended Cottageville Community Methodist Church and will always be remembered for the love he had for tinkering with old cars. He was a mason and dearly loved his beloved dogs, Buddy, Bulldog, and Shiloh.
Surviving are: his wife of thirty-seven years, Mrs. Lisa Cater; a son, James “Jason” Carter, III and his wife Angela; three grandchildren; Shay, Aubrey, and Isabell; as well as his father-in-law, John Dick and his wife Alice; a sister-in-law, Linda Carter; a brother-in-law, Donnie Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Brenda Evans and Sandra Brown; a brother, John Carter; and a brother-in-law, Finley Evans.
The family would like the express their heartfelt appreciation to Lauren, Heather, Shamika, and Shwanda with Family Hospice for the love and terrific care they provided.
Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has requested that memorials be directed in his memory to the following, Cottageville Community Methodist Church Food Bank, 10685 Cottageville Highway, Cottageville, South Carolina 29435; or to, Family Hospice, 112 Rutledge Ave, Unit A, Charleston, South Carolina 29401.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, October 22, 2025, from Cottageville Community Methodist Church, 10685 Cottageville Highway, Cottageville. The Reverend Wally West officiating. Interment will follow in Cottageville Cemetery, Jacksonboro Road, Cottageville.
The family will receive friends from 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock Tuesday evening at Cottageville Community Methodist Church.
