Edisto Island, South Carolina

Mrs. June Mildred Callaway, 86, of Steam Boat Landing Road on Edisto Island entered into rest Sunday, March 14, 2021, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.

Born March 12, 1935, in Claxton, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Enoch and Mildred Boyette Callaway.  After residing in Claxton for over forty-two years, she made Edisto Island her home just over two years ago.  She was a seamstress and will always be remembered as a strong and independent woman.  An excellent cook, who instilled into her sons and family the art of great cooking, she loved animals, reading, and completing puzzles.

Surviving are: a son, Stephen Michael Sapp of Edisto Island; four grandchildren, Tiffany Baker, Jessica Sapp, Taylor Sapp, and Kaci Sapp; eight great grandchildren, Latrell Jenkins, Immanuel Berry, Makenzy Hand, Kenny Hand, Warren Hand, Bryan Bell, Grayson Sapp, and Easton Sapp; a daughter-in-law, Cora J. Sapp; and six siblings, Shelba Davis, Carolyn Walsh, Wanda Fay Fanning, Ernest C. Callaway, Dr. Dale Callaway, and Mark Callaway.   She was preceded in death by a son, Craig Sapp; and a grandson, Tony Sapp.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Friends of Colleton County Animal Shelter, 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
