Funeral services for Judy Strickland Smoak, 63, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2011 at Ehrhardt Baptist Church in Ehrhardt, directed by The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Ehrhardt-Bamberg Chapel. Interment will follow in Smoaks Baptist Church Cemetery in Smoaks. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel. Judy was born September 7, 1947 in Walterboro and passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011. She was a daughter of the late James Searson and Virginia Shaw Strickland. Judy retired with nearly 42 years of service as Assistant Comptroller General at the State Comptroller Generals Office. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. Judy loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading, baking and working in the yard. She was affectionately known as JuJu to Tucker and Miller Ayn and her family and friends.
Judy is survived by her son, Jeffrey B. (Laura) Smoak of Columbia; grandchildren, Tucker and Miller Ayn; sister, Ginger (Tommy) Cushman; sister-in-law, Betty Jo (Jimmy) Neighbors; nephews, Brady (Amy) Cushman and Toby (Alesha) Cushman; nieces, Danielle (Robert) Mixon and Shanna (James) Jarrell; many great-nieces and nephews and her low-country cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Ervin Smoak, Jr. and her parents.
