Judy Hiers

Judy Benton Hiers, age 77, passed away December 6, 2024. She was born February 18, 1947, to the late Willie Frankie Benton and Lourie Roberts Benton. She was married to the love of her life and best friend for fifty-three years, James Junior Hiers, in April of 1967 who preceded her in death on March 18, 2020. For many years Judy worked as a seamstress in sewing plants, waitress, and babysitter to numerous children that she considered as her own. The most cherished role was being a mother to her three children, Wendy Hiers Craven (Terry), Jamie Hiers (Renee), and Tammy Hiers who preceded her in death on March 18, 2020. Her family grew in size over the years to give her the new proud role as Mammy to her beautiful grandchildren, Taylor D. Sparks and her significant other (Rusty Schmitt), Austin Sparks, Jamilynn Ayer (Aaron), Rylan Hiers, Tracey Craven Lane (Brandon), CT Craven (Tressie), and Tiffany Craven; and great grandchildren, Issac Ayer, Willow Ayer, Aiden Lane, Emily Lecroy, and Madilyn Woods. She never wavered in the amount of love she had to share with anyone that she met to include the special bonds she shared with all the many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers-in-law; and sisters-in-law. Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” We are so grateful for the way we were raised. She was never afraid to be our mother — to put her foot down, to teach us right from wrong, to make sure we did our best. She always let us know we had a mom who cared about us, who believed in us, who was there for us no matter what. She would always tell you she loved you, no matter when or where. We are so lucky to be chosen to be her family.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 5 until 7, Sunday evening, December 8, 2024, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.
