Mrs. Judith Copeland Harbiston, known affectionately as Judy, age 72, of Newport, North Carolina, entered into her eternal rest Thursday evening, October 11, 2012, at the Carteret General Hospital in Moorehead City, North Carolina.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Wednesday morning, October 17, 2012, from Little Swamp United Methodist Church, 17465 Hunters Chapel Road, Smoaks. The Reverend Kevin P. Stroop officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard.
A native of Williams, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late James Lenroe Copeland and the late Martha Garris Copeland born December 26, 1939. After having attended Junior Methodist College and Erskine College, where she had received her Bachelors Degree, she became an educator having taught third grade as well as having been a Librarian at Goose Creek Elementary School. She made the Havelock and Newport areas her home in 1995 where she had attended Harlowe United Methodist Church. She was a former member of Little Swamp United Methodist Church where she had sung with the church choir and was active with the United Methodist Youth.
Surviving are: her husband of forty-six years, Henry Casper Harbiston, Jr.; a daughter, Karen Denice Stull and her husband Donald of Albany, Georgia; and a son, James Henry Harbiston of Newport, North Carolina. There is one granddaughter, Rebecca Dianne Cercopely; and a great granddaughter, Danielle Marie Cardonia; as well as an aunt, Mary Joe Strickland of Orangeburg along with cousins, George Burbage, Jr., Mary Lynn Britt, and Parker Burbage all of Jedburg who also survive.
