Mrs. Joyce Lake Fralin, 87, of Walterboro, entered into rest Thursday morning, February 12, 2015, at the Oakwood Health Care Center in Walterboro. She was the loving wife of the late Mr. Harry Fenton Fralin, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 oclock Thursday afternoon, February 19, 2015, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
Born August 30, 1927, a native of Silverstreet, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Frank Lake and the late Sudie Tallent Lake. Joyce was a well-known and beloved iconic figure at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro due to her hard work and strong work ethic. At the hospital, she worked diligently for thirty-three years in their radiology department retiring as an x-ray technician. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro where she was also a member of the Miriam Clark Sunday School Class. Joyce centered her life around her work and her family, always present at any event that involved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was also a fabulous southern cook who became famous amongst her family and friends for her well anticipated dishes. Among her pastimes was spending time at her farm where she spent countless hours fishing in the pond and also completing jigsaw puzzles.
Surviving are: her children, William Steven Fralin (Sherri Mizell) of Edisto Island and Patricia Fralin DeLoach (Dr. C.J. Buddy DeLoach, III); and a brother, Donald Lake (Irene) of Walterboro. There are five grandchildren, Michael Shane Fralin of California, William Bryan Fralin (Sara) of Summerville, Cathy Sue Smith (Thomas) of Walterboro, Marie Tallent DeLoach of Florida and C.J. DeLoach, IV (Kathy Bazzel) of Bennetts Point; six great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter in 1961 Cathy Sue Fralin; a brother, Ted Lake; and two sisters, Betty Jean Beach and Elaine Catterton.
