Joshua Merritt

Mr. Joshua Eugene Merritt, affectionately known by many as "Josh", age 18, of Maple Ridge Road, Walterboro, went with God Wednesday morning, May 25, 2011, in Colleton County from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Funeral services will be conducted at 6 o'clock Saturday evening, May 28, 2011, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro with The Reverend Tom Polk officiating.

The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony and celebration of Josh's life in the Harbiston Stateroom of the mortuary until 8 o'clock that evening.

Josh was born May 30, 1992, in Fayetteville, North Carolina and was a son of Marvin Lawrence Merritt, Jr. and Tina Lynn Ellis. He was a graduate of Colleton County High School - Class of 2010, and was employed with Consolidated Utility Services. He was a new father with a free spirit. He had a personality as big as the world and could make anybody laugh. His short life was filled with love and laughter, and anyone who knew him was truly blessed. He will be tremendously missed. He attended Jones Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church in Walterboro.

His spirit will live on with his young son, Darren Joshua Merritt. He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents Tina and Carl Ellis of Walterboro and Marvin and Kim Merritt of Ladson; a sister Brandy Merritt of Walterboro, sister and brother-in-law Amanda and Scotty Muckenfuss, stationed in Las Vegas, Nevada; three brothers, Alec Cockrum and Chason Merritt both of Ladson, and Jordan Tackett of Fayetteville. Also surviving are his grandparents Mary and Marvin Merritt of Fayetteville, Linda Wright of Fayetteville, Denise and Gary Cockrum of Summerville, and Michael and Merilyn Cyrus of Ladson, as well as the mother of his son, Faith Crosby; numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and a niece. He is predeceased by his grandfather Robert Wright.

In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the trust fund established for his newborn son, Darren Merritt, care of Enterprise Bank, Post Office Box 1504, 776 Bells Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
