Mr. Johnny Marshall Strickland, 70, of Buckhead Road in Smoaks, entered into rest Thursday morning, October 3, 2013, at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. He was the husband of twenty-five years to the late Mrs. Peggy Rhodes Strickland who was the true love and light of his life.
A private family graveside committal will be conducted from the Kicklighter-Carter-Strickland Cemetery in Smoaks. The Reverend Daniel Cooper officiating.
Born October 13, 1942, a native and lifelong resident of Colleton County, he was a son of the late Samuel Cecil Strickland and the late Myrtice Carter Strickland. Johnny was a retired truck driver. He was an active and devoted member of Living Word Outreach Ministries in Walterboro and was also a member of the Columbia Jaycees. He was a avid antique collector and will be remembered for his love of fishing the fresh water creeks of Colleton County.
Surviving are: a son, David Marshall Strickland and his wife Nikki of Santa Rosa, Florida; a daughter, Tammy Wallace and her husband Charles of Oak Grove, Missouri; two brothers, Robert Kevin Strickland and Symman Carter Strickland both of Smoaks; and three sisters, Marsha Jernigan and Martha Mazyck both of Smoaks and Gwen Caldwell of North Charleston. There are twelve grandchildren, Carly Strickland, Miles Strickland, Madalyn Strickland, Saylor Strickland, Diane Love, Amanda Abbot, Hope Wallace, Logan Davis, Makayla Voss, Kyla Davis, Fowler Davis, and Conner Davis; and three great grandchildren, Jayden Love, Kaydence Wallace, and Avery Wallace; as well as nieces and nephews, Karen Strickland, Crystal Mazyck, Cecilia Pelfrey, Troy Aultman, Carter Strickland, Kyle Strickland, Shannon Padgett, Deanna Strickland, Clayton Strickland, Adam Marshall Strickland, and Katie Strickland that also survive. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Cecil Strickland; a sister, LaDelle Strickland; a grandchild, Sidney Shay Strickland; and two nephews, Mike Jernigan and Adam Strickland.
