Mr. Johnny Lloyd Spell, 72, of Walterboro, entered into rest Monday morning, February 21, 2022, at his residence while under the care of Amedisys Hospice.
Born July 6, 1949, in Colleton County, South Carolina, he served our country faithfully in the South Carolina National Guard. Johnny dedicated his life to law enforcement. He retired after a steadfast career of nearly thirty years to the Department of Natural Resources as a Buck Sergeant. Throughout his life, he was involved with the Walterboro Police Department and also retired from the Colleton County Sheriffs Department where he began as a Deputy and was serving as a Civil Processer at the time of his retirement.
Johnny Spell was a friend to many and he believed in the value of friendship. He was a family man in every sense and always put the needs of his family before all else. He like most southern gentleman enjoyed the outdoors, hunting the American White Tail deer and fishing on the creeks and river banks of our beloved Lowcountry rivers. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church No. 1.
Surviving are his wife of forty-nine years, Mrs. Irene Bazzle Spell, three children, Angela Spell-Reimel (David), Johnny L. Spell, Jr., and David Baker (Tasha); siblings, Roger Beach (Christy), David Beach (Deedee), Mona Spell, Angie Spell Tinkler (Larry), Denise Swede (Amr), Mike Spell (Beth), Marion Taylor (Carol), Cindy Shanks and Theodore Taylor; and three grandchildren, Colton J. Reimel, Caleb Baker, and Brooke Baker; and his step-mother, Julie Spell. He is also survived by a large host of extended family members and cousins as well as nieces and nephews to include, Jimmy Beach (Lisa), Jennifer Beach Hughes (Jr.), and J.R. Beach – whom he has been a part of their lives since the day they were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise Robertson Beach, Gaston H. Beach, Sr., and John H. Spell; a daughter, Melissa Irene Spell; and a brother, Gaston H. Beach, Jr.
