Mr. Johnny E. Nettles, 81, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Monday morning, July 20, 2026, at his residence.
Born June 21, 1945, in Ruffin, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Ernest and Joan Nettles. Johnny graduated from St. Paul High School in 1964 and was in the first graduating class for A/C from Trident. He served his country in the South Carolina Army National Guard. Johnny owned and operated Nettles Sand Company from 1970 until 2004. After retiring, he enjoyed farming, hunting, and going on many fishing trips to Florida.
Surviving are: his devoted companion, Ruth Rizer; son, Allen Butler and his wife Suzanne; grandchildren, Tucker Browning Stanley, Carson Bailee Stanley, Little Allen Butler, and Anna Butler; sisters, Myrtle Maull, Mary Croft, and Sarah DuPree; son-in-law, Mark Stanley; his former wife, Ellen “Punky” Sires Nettles; two special nephews, Edward Bryant and Bernie Maull; special aunt, Nancy Carmicheal; and several special grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Allison Nettles Stanley; son, Joe Benjamin “Jody” Butler; sister, Ernestine “Ernie” Canady; and brothers-in-law, Jack Maull, Phil Croft, and Bobby DuPree.
Funeral services will be held 10 o’clock, Wednesday morning, July 22, 2026, at Grace Advent Christian Church, 396 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
