John Waddell
December 6, 1955 — February 5, 2012
John Spencer Waddell of Walterboro, SC, passed away February 5, 2012, from injuries sustained in a vehicular accident. Beloved husband of Julia Ragsdale Waddell and devoted father of James Michael Waddell, John is also survived by his brothers, Jay Waddell (Ginna) of Charleston and Mike Waddell (Betty) of Columbia and a host of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, State Senator James M. Waddell, Jr., of Columbia and Natalie L. Waddell of Beaufort.
John was born on December 6, 1955, in Beaufort and graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Forestry . He began his career with Westvaco and continued with Kapstone Paper.
John was passionate about the Lowcountry and the outdoors - hunting, fishing, golf, tennis, boating, oyster roasts, and time spent with his family and many dear friends. He was well known for his devotion to his wife Julia of 32 years, whom he met in high school, and for the pride he had in his son, James, a Clemson University student who shared his father's love of the college and its teams as well as his enjoyment of everything outdoors. Throughout his life John was an avid, competitive tennis player and golfer. He served his community on the Board of Colleton Preparatory Academy and president of the Walterboro Tennis Association. He touched numerous lives with his genuine, fun-loving nature and decent, common-sense approach to life. As his friends say, "Heaven just got a little more fun!"
It was John's wishes not to have a funeral. The family will be accepting visitors at their home on Friday, February 10, 2012, between the hours of 2-8pm.
