Mr. John Hamilton Rodgers, Sr., affectionately known by many as Johnny, age 64, of 211 Klein Street in Walterboro, entered into his state of eternal rest Thursday afternoon, March 17, 2011, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 oclock Sunday afternoon, March 20, 2011, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, Jefferies Blvd, Walterboro. Serving as casket bearers will be: B. Way Bud Knight, Jr., J. Daniel Danny Knight, Larry V. Knight, Craig Frawley, Rick Wright, and Jacob Branden; and serving as honorary escorts will be Freddie Adams, Mitch Garris, James A. Linder, Henry D. Strickland, Ronnie Lamb, and Thomas M. Crosby.
Mr. Rodgers was born November 11, 1946, in Walterboro, South Carolina and was a son of the late Swinton H. Rodgers and the late Caryl Louise Knight Rodgers. He served his country in the South Carolina Army National Guard and was a former general contractor. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, downtown Walterboro. He was an avid outdoorsman, always enjoying hunting large game American Whitetail Deer and fishing the local creeks of Colleton County. He was also an avid fan of NASCAR Motor Sports Racing.
Surviving are: a son, John Hamilton Rodgers, Jr. of Walterboro; a daughter, Lesi Rodgers Chapman and her husband Jason of Walterboro; two grandchildren, Jennings Chapman and Whitney Chapman; a sister, Ann Rodgers Crosby of Cottageville; his wife, Mrs. Joanne Rodgers; a step-daughter, Mandi Branden and her husband Jacob of Twin City, Georgia; and four step-grandchildren, Blair, Lawton, Maggie Jo, and Inman Branden.
The family has requested that for those who so desire, in lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
