John Shill, Jr

Biography

Mr. John Walter Shill, Jr., 76, of Cooks Hill Road, Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 3 pm, Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Peniel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2 until the hour of service at the church.

Mr. Shill was born April 4, 1935 in Washington, Mississippi and was a son of the late John Walter Shill, Sr. and Sarah Marie Seirae Shill. He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy, retiring after 20 years of service. He was an employee of Days Inn in Walterboro, working in the maintenance department. He was a member of Peniel Baptist Church. Mr. Shill loved woodworking, especially making birdhouses, and also loved working on CB radios. He loved being with his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are: his wife, Mary Ellen Walling Shill of Walterboro; children, Ronald Johnson of Givhans, David Johnson of Walterboro, Robert Johnson of Nashville, TN, Peggy Johnson of Dunkirk, NY, Matthew Johnson of Walterboro, Johnny Shill of Dorchester, Alex Shill of Bonneau, Sarah Shill of Charleston and Michelle Miller of Charleston; brothers, Danny Shill of Powder Springs, GA, Jimmy Shill of Prairieville, LA and Francis Shill of Merritt Island, FL; sisters, Helen Lee of Savannah, GA, Donna McCurley of Philadelphia, MS, Margaret Williamson of Mendenhall, Mississippi, MS, Barbara Graphia of Baton Rouge, LA and Emily Seale; and 18 grandchildren.
