Mr. John Muray Hiers, 84, of 229 Riverland Drive, Charleston, entered into his rest early Tuesday morning, July 5, 2011, at his residence. He was the husband of thirty-eight years, to Mrs. Esther Israel McCormick Hiers who died in 2006.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, July 10, 2011 from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Ehrhardt. Interment will follow in Ehrhardt Cemetery, Ehrhardt.
Mr. Hiers was born August 19, 1926, in Ehrhardt, and was a son of the late Frank Hiers and the late Wilma Clayton Hiers. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army Air Corp and was a retired Boiler Mechanic from the Charleston County School District. He was of the Baptist faith, having in earlier years attended Citadel Square Baptist Church. He will be remembered for his favorite pastime of fishing, especially the time he spent fishing his pond on his land in Ehrhardt. During his life he had at times collected coins, enjoyed antique cars and many other hobbies that will always remembered about him.
He was formerly married to the mother of his children, late Sally Marie Davidson Hiers Hughes; and surviving are: two sons, Danny Ray Hiers of Charleston and Roger Dale Hiers and his wife Carol of Atlanta, Georgia; a daughter, Debbie Hiers Livingston and her husband Jimmy of Amory, Mississippi; a step-daughter, Shirley Sealy of Eutawville; a step-son, Randall McCormick of Macon, Georgia; and a sister, Helen Wall of Charleston. There are four grandchildren, Robert Nicholas Bogle and his wife Ashley Nicole of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Michael Wayne Bogle and his wife Ashley of Dana of Tupelo, Mississippi, Johnathan Ray Hiers of Charleston, and William Dale Hiers of Charleston; as well as great grandchildren, Colby Wayne Bogle, Parker Nicholas Bogle, Johnathan Ray Hiers, Jr. and Jasmine Natalie Hiers. He was preceded in death Barbara Elaine Hiers in 1955.
