Mr. John Lewis Fender, 94, of Lugoff, entered into eternal rest Friday, November 25, 2022 at the C.M. Tucker Nursing Home in Columbia. He was the husband of the late Jettie Carnes Fender.
Born November 14, 1928 in Walterboro, he was a son of the late John Ethan Fender and Reba Avant Fender. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He served his country in the United States Air Force as an Airmen First Class. During his time in the Air Force, he served in the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Fender worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority as a mechanical engineer from 1960-1989. He was a member of Meridian Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. He enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, visiting the Great Smokey Mountains, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are: his sons, John Matthew Fender of Greensboro, North Carolina and Brian Kevin Fender and his wife Kelcy of Columbia; grandchildren, Benjamin Miles Fender and Lily Grace Fender; and a brother, James Ed Fender of Walterboro.
Graveside funeral services will be held 1 o’clock, Saturday afternoon, December 3, 2022 at Fender Cemetery, Ulmer Lake Drive, Walterboro.
