John Redding DeLoache

John Redding DeLoache, of 210 Iris Dr, Walterboro, SC, died August 13, 2026, at the Veterans Victory House.

Born in Camden, SC in 1946, he was the son of the late Charles Herbert DeLoache and Florence Margaret (Goodale) DeLoache.

Mr. DeLoache served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. His civilian career took him to Saudi Arabia, as well as working for McDonnell Douglas on the West Coast. After returning to South Carolina he was employed by the State Community College system. As a Certified Fleet Manager he worked for Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative in Manassas, VA and was the Director of Fleet Management for the State of South Dakota from 1999-2018, serving under several State Governors. He was an active member of the National Association of Fleet Administrators, championing the certification among his own employees and others. In retirement, he moved to Edisto Island and enjoyed working part-time in the local grocery store, Food Lion. In 2023, John was diagnosed with Moderate Alzheimer's disease, the long goodbye. In July of 2024 he became a resident at the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro, SC.

Mr. DeLoache grew up attending schools in Camden and was a member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church. He was an outstanding golfer, playing for years at the Camden Country Club where his father was a co-founder and remarkable golfer. He and his cousin Frank spent many hours at the family cottages at Wateree. He was fond of dogs, having Smudge as a childhood companion and later Daisy, a wedding gift from breeder Betty Fisher; an adopted stray from Kristen while in college, Shaba and her puppies Crackerjack and Peanut; and finally Frankie (Sinatra) a shelter rescue fostered by Marla and Steve Anderson, who was part Australian Shepherd and part St Bernard. Mr. DeLoache was an avid gun owner, excellent marksman and member of Cowboy Fast Draw, nicknamed Wagon Boss. He often practiced target shooting with the Orbell family in Wyoming and the range in Fort Pierre, SD. He enjoyed deer, turkey, pheasant, and duck hunting and fishing in lakes of South Dakota and deep sea fishing off Key West. His photographs won awards in national contests and were published during the I980’s. Mr. DeLoache is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betsey DeLoache; by his stepchildren, Kimberley Blatz Orbell and her husband Philip Orbell of Riverton, WY; Kristen Blatz, of Key West, FL; and by two grandsons: Sage Orbell and Cyrus Orbell; niece Leslie D Grabill and nephew John Keith DeLoache; cousin Frank Montgomery and his wife Jo, their family, and many co-workers and friends. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by brother Charles Herbert DeLoache, Jr. and nephew Kevin DeLoache.

A memorial service will not be held at John’s request. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
