John Craven, Sr

EHRHARDT " Mr. John William Craven, Sr., age 82, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at his residence in Ehrhardt. He was the husband of Dorothy Jordan Craven.



Funeral services will be conducted 4 oclock Sunday afternoon, November 8, 2009 from the St. Johns Baptist Church in Ehrhardt, with the Reverend Doctor Robert Craven officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until the hour of the service at the church.



Mr. Craven was born July 27, 1927, in Meridian, Mississippi and was a son of the late Charles Craven, Sr. and Clara Louise Perry Craven. He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his discharge, he continued to serve his country as a civil service fireman. He was a member of St. Johns Baptist Church, a life member of the VFW Chapter, Post 5930, an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.



Surviving are: his wife, Dorothy Jordan Craven; sons John W. Craven, Jr. and his wife Sonja of Ocean Shores, WA, and Reverend Doctor Robert Craven and his wife Elizabeth of Turbeville, SC; daughter, Linda Ann Whitehead of Lakeland, FL; brother Robert Paige Craven of Boonesville, Mississippi; and sisters Louise Smoak of Lawrence, Kansas and Sara Cooper of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. There are fourteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one grandchild; and a son-in-law, James Whitehead.
