Mr. John Carlisle Carter, 94, of Canadys, SC, passed away at home on Tuesday, September 7, 2010.



Funeral services will be held 11 oclock, Friday, September 10, 2010 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.



Mr. Carter was the beloved son of now deceased Newton A. and Lutitia Bailey Carter. Carlisle was a member of Canaan Baptist Church, where over the years he served in many areas. He was an active Sunday School Teacher and Deacon Emeritus at the time of his death. Carlisles passions were studying Gods word, gardening and singing. He enjoyed sharing his garden with family and friends.



He served his country faithfully in the United States Army from February 7, 1940 until March 1, 1960, having retired as a First Sergeant. He served in World War II and the Korean Conflict and was a Schofield Barracks Pearl Harbor Survivor. He received many honors during his tenure in the military including: World War II Honorable Discharge Pin (Ruptured Duck), Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal for Combat 1941-1944, Army Commendation Medal with Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Conduct Knots, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with Silver Service Star, Bronze Service Star and Arrow, World War II Victory Medal, World War II Occupation Medal-Army with Germany Bar, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Medal, Sharpshooter, Expert Rifleman, and 13 Letters of Accommodations.



He has three surviving sisters, Rosie C. Padgett of Canadys, Sadie Harrison of Canadys and Corinne Carter of Lexington. He has many surviving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
