John Oscar Bastas

April 26, 1920 — March 26, 2015

Mr. John Oscar Bastas, age 94, of Santee, entered into rest Thursday morning, March 26, 2015, at the Veteran’s Victory House in Walterboro.

Funeral services with Military Honors will be conducted 10 o’clock Friday morning, March 27, 2015, from the graveside at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia.

Born April 26, 1920, a son of the late George Bastas and the late Lena Hanson Bastas, he was a native of Elgin, Illinois where he resided until making South Carolina his home for the past ten years.  He served in the United States Army having been a veteran of World War II.   John worked in advertising as a sales representative and was of the Lutheran Faith.  He was a member of the American Legion and also the Veterans of Foreign Wars.   John was extremely artistic, having been a talented artist and wonderful dancer.

Surviving are: his only sister, Shirley A. Jones of Santee; a nephew, Michael Monroe and his wife Mary Ann of Columbia; a niece, Cindy Woodham and her husband Woody of Chapin and their children, Zach, Cooper, and Carson.
