Joey Lyons

Mr. Joseph Leigh Lyons, Sr., known to everyone as “Joey”, 68, of Smoaks, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Colleton Medical Center.

Born May 4, 1952 in Walterboro, he was a son of the late Edrick H. Lyons, Sr. and Margaret Barnes Lyons.  He was a shell fisherman for most of his life.  He was a member of Berea Advent Christian Church.  He loved being on the water but most of all, he loved his family.  He never met a stranger and will be missed by all that knew him.  He never had much because he gave so generously.  Hats off to DNR; Joey says, “catch me if you can!” Legends never die.

Surviving are: his wife, Donna Polk Lyons of Smoaks; children, Maxine Prater (Bobby Christopher) of Cottageville, Patrice Mitchell (Carl) of Walterboro, Christine Torres of Beaufort, Samantha Cook of Walterboro, Joseph Leigh Lyons, Jr. (Lindsay) of Ruffin, Joy Eaddy (Clint) of Walterboro, and Melissa Beach (Dillon) of Walterboro; son-in-law, Silvio Torres of Smoaks; sister, Margaret Lyons Bunton (Gene) of Mashawville; brother-in-law, Sammie Sanders of Mashawville; sister-in-law, Patrice Hansotte of Smoaks; his former wife, Dora Breland of Walterboro; grandchildren, Nicki Florence, J.J. Prater, Lilly Christopher, Savannah McCurry, Angelica Pichardo, Jonathan Torres, Paulina Torres, Junior Leyja, Isaac Cook, Ralph Leyja, Timothy Leyja, Vyktoria Lyons, Joseph Leigh Lyons, III, Hailey Boyd, Nikki Boyd, Karla McMillan, Noah Lyons, Lucas Lyons, Blake Eaddy, Perry Eaddy, Jason Lyons, Sarah Beach, Kobe Beach, and Gauge Beach; great grandchildren, Eden, Emerson, Buddy, Addley, August, and Bryan, to be continued…; many nieces and nephews; and many others that he dearly loved.  He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Buddy Prater; sister, Vicky Lyons Sanders; brother, Edrick H. Lyons, Jr.; and a niece, Terri Lynn Sanders.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, December 13, 2020 from 12:30 until 2 o’clock at Berea Advent Christian Church.  The graveside service will be immediately following at Hagan Cemetery.
