Joel F. Reese

Mr. Joel Franklin Reese, Jr., age 85, entered into rest Monday afternoon, September 7, 2015, at his home in Walterboro.  He was the loving husband of fifty-three years to the late Mrs. Helen Kinard Reese.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, September 10, 2015, from the graveside at Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.  The Reverend Dr. Zane Brown officiating.

Mr. Reese was born in Augusta, Georgia, to the late Joel Franklin Reese, Sr. and the late Evelyn Allen Reese.  He was a graduate of Boys Catholic High School Augusta, Georgia in 1947 and served in the United States Navy from 1947 until 1952 as a Radarman 2nd Class during the Korean Conflict.  He retired from United Insurance Company of America in 1982.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro and will always be remembered for the love he had for camping, especially the trips he and his late wife enjoyed to Hunting Island.

Surviving are: two sons, Billy Moore of West Columbia and Joel F. Reese, III, and his wife Barbara of Irmo; a daughter, Cherly Reese Cox and her husband Bud of Walterboro; six grandchildren, Barbara Lovelace of Port Orange, Florida, Oliver Moore and his wife Jennifer of West Columbia, Stephanie Coker and her husband Chris of Walterboro, Jerry Tilman and his wife Gloria of Garnett, Jordan Reese of Columbia, and Jennifer Reese of Irmo; nine great grandchildren,   Austin and Makayla Hinz, Katalina Garvalia, Shay Coker, Kyler Garvalia, William and Shae Lovelace, and Sydney and Riley Moore; as well as one great great grandchild, Braylan “Hambone” Hay.  He is also survived by two siblings, Jane Reese Verdery of Augusta, Georgia and Ben Reese of North Augusta, Georgia.  He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Brenda Moore.
